Obama Responds to Bush’s Comments

Added: May 16, 2008

At 5:43 into this video, Barack Obama asserts that he "has never said" he'd negotiate with terrorists. The problem with this is one of two things: Barack Obama is either lying through his teeth, or he doesn't consider the Iranian regime terrorists.

Either way, he's off.

This freshman is simultaneously declaring he is above the politics of the past while using everything in its toolbox to tie John McCain with George Bush.

H/T Charles at Little Green Footballs.

UPDATE: Some of the best commentary I've seen on this is over at Gateway Pundit:

THIS IS AMAZING... President George W. Bush on Appeasement May 15, 2008-- Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. Barack Obama on Appeasement May 16, 2008-- The U.S. needs a foreign policy that "looks at the root causes of problems and dangers." Obama compared Hezbollah to Hamas. Both need to be compelled to understand that "they’re going down a blind alley with violence that weakens their legitimate claims... If they decide to shift, we’re going to recognize that. That’s an evolution that should be recognized"

He just reads what is put in front of him. They are not his words or his ideas so he doesn’t remember saying them.

Barak Obama is just another politician who has a problem with the content of his character.

Best response of the Day:

Glenn Reynolds summed it up with this pithy statement:

MEMO TO THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN: When somebody condemns appeasement, it doesn’t help things to jump up and yell “Hey, he’s talking about me!”

Let me get this straight...negotiating with Hamas and Hezbollah is out of the question, but negotiating with their sponsors and masters in Tehran is necessary?  Please.

This whole thing may end up backfiring on Obama.
