Added: May 18, 2008

Sen. McCain gives Democrats some advice.

What should we be looking for in our next president? Someone very very old!

Thought I should be fair an unbiased, so I’m sending the SNL piece with John McCain, being old, old and old.  Funny stuff!

I have to say that McCain’s SNL appearance is bad news for the Democrat field.  He was funny, confident, and coherent.  I am surprised that SNL let him look so good.  He disarmed the old meme that His Divine Changieness is promoting.  He got tons of applause.  My surprise is that SNL would give a republican any positive spin (Rudy in drag?).  As the PR wing of the DNC that SNL is, this bone they threw the GOP nominee could be the best gift in years to the GOP.  This could be the first tremor in a landslide come November.

I am surprised that SNL tossed the GOP a bone, but honestly, they have to realize that McCain is as close to a democrat as the GOP is ever likely to nominate and so if you are a liberal you are in a win/win situation right now.

Also, I think that the subtext of this is an understated attack on Hillary Clinton.  The message to democrats viewing the spot is, “Hillary Clinton is only helping the Republicans.” This is SNL calling for Hillary to quit the race.

Don’t care.  An R is still an R - even if it stands for Rino.  It’s still a defeat for the Liberal lefties, any way you cut it.

And by the way:  Pretty hard to argue Mac’s position on the Iraq war is in any way pleasing to liberals, even if he’s not so appealing to the right in other respects.

Go John McCain!

After seeing McCain on SNL, I’m confident he’s the winner in November.  If you have the sense of humor and cohesiveness to make fun of yourself on national TV, you’ve got the character to be Prez. Better than those two whiners on the other side.

I’m reading a biography of McCain called “John McCain, An American Odyssey” by Robert Timberg, which I highly recommend.  It’s a super quick 200 pages and you have to know his full bio if you want real perspective on his character.

Hey, the guy might be President in a few months, may as well know what you’re getting.

Remember Obama’s cameo on SNL? Painfully unfunny. This isn’t even a one-up on that. More like a ten-up.

“Imagine leaving the convention and -still- not having a nominee.” Heh.  McCain was a little telepromter-y, but his expressions were varied, and the delivery was relaxed, well-timed, and funny.  Exceeded my expectations.

That was crazy… crazy exciting.
