Fred Kagan on the Surge
Fred Kagan was on MSNBC yesterday to talk about the current discussion surrounding the surge strategy in Iraq. Fred, as one of the authors of the strategy, is frankly blown away with the parsing of McCain's words rather than focusing on how far off Obama's suggestions actually were.
Further, for Obama to not fully acknowledge the success of the surge of troops and concurrent change in strategy is laughable, literally. At about 1:20 into the video, Fred refers to a time when he asked one of the leading Sunni sheiks whether or not the awakening could have taken place independently of the surge. The sheik responds, "what idiot said that?"
There's also a good discussion on what to do about Iran. If you can, watch the whole thing.
The architect of the surge strategy knows that McCain is right.
