You just knew that abortion was going to be an issue in this campaign, as it is in every presidential campaign. Abortion is the hot button issue in American politics. Nothing new there, but the fact that it’s rearing its head by way of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act (BAIPA) is unexpected. Regardless of where you stand on the issue, this topic will make you very uncomfortable.
The reality is that some babies survive abortions, and then a question presents itself: Should the baby be given medical attention in an attempt to save its life, or should it be allowed to die?
If that kind of explosive issue makes its way into the headlines of the race, it’s gonna get ugly. This is the type of issue that can move an election, and this is the kind of firepower that Barack Obama will be up against:
For more background on the issue and Obama’s voting record in Illinois with regards to BAIPA, check out David Reinhard in The Oregonian.
