House Rejects Bailout Bill

Incredible!  The House of Representatives just turned down the proposed bailout bill.  The Dow fluctuated wildly during the vote, going from down 350 to down 675 and then back to down 350.  The final vote was 228 Nay and 205 Yea.  From Breitbart:

The House on Monday defeated a $700 billion emergency rescue package, ignoring urgent pleas from President Bush and bipartisan congressional leaders to quickly bail out the staggering financial industry.

When the critical vote was tallied, too few members of the House were willing to support the unpopular measure with elections just five weeks away. Ample no votes came from both the Democratic and Republican sides of the aisle.

Almost inconceivably, Nancy Pelosi gave a very partisan speech on the floor just before the vote took place.  The Republican leadership just held a press briefing and put the blame squarely on Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats.  I’ll try to get a copy of the speech as soon as possible.

At the end of the day, this bill became politically unpalatable.  Look at the numbers; only 60% of Democrats voted for the bill, meaning they were seriously apprehensive about being on the ballot next month with that vote on their record.

i think this bill is about ss anti republican as anything id ever seen. Im glad the speaker decided to go on a anti bush tirade right before the vote.There is plenty of blam to go around for the current market instabillity,but letting the same people who let this happen right under there noses try to fix it in my hunble opinion is the worst think we can do.Let the market work it self out
